The ultimate goal in life is to feel like you are flying. Feel utter weightlessness. When you feel like nothing is weighing you down and like you don’t need to do anything to better yourself, then you have reached success because you are happy. But you can’t know that you’re happy, or else you will be afraid of losing that happiness, thus causing you to lose your happiness. It is the conundrum of the ages. Many people are hesitating and stuck on what might happen and they forget to just do.

This is why we love seeing children play, sing, or dance—they aren’t doing it for anyone, but they are doing it for themselves. “If only I could become like a child again, innocent, but then soon we know, and parents know how beautiful child dances and they all approve of it and say to this child, “Dance for us,” the child begins to lose this power and it puts on airs. It knows it’s noticed. And we don’t like that. You say that’s an affectation, that’s showing off, that’s funny, “What we want you to do is to dance as if you had no audience, not even yourself,” which of course puts the child in a double bind because it says to the child, we require you to do something that will be acceptable only if you do it as if it wasn’t required; we do that all the time.” – Alan Watts. Now if we could do everything we want to do as if it wasn’t required, then we would be happy.

Compare it to a brain’s function. We don’t know how it works, nor do we care how it works most of the time. But we pay attention to it when it doesn’t. Comparing this to things in life would say that life works well when you don’t need to pay attention to it. An easy defense to this would be that how would I know that I was happy if I wasn’t paying attention to it. This is a problem that isn’t well solved because if you know that you are happy, then you become afraid of losing it thus causing you to lose your happiness because you are self-aware. It is both a blessing and a curse. So, the optimal solution would be to not pay attention to things because you are afraid of failure or because you are afraid of losing what you have. If things are working well now, don’t mess with it trying to make them stay longer.
